YayOrNay Experiences
What are YayOrNay Experiences?
YayOrNay Experiences are in-person activities designed to make meeting new people in your city easier. You can go on a curated Date, team up with a friend or partner for Duo to meet another Duo, or use Just Show Up to join a group of people you are likely to get along with. Crews is more self-directed, helping your friend group find other groups and arrange a meetup. For invitation-based Experiences, we handle the matching, venue, activity and reservation so you can spend less time planning and more time connecting and creating memories.
Which Experience types are available?
YayOrNay offers Date, Duo, Just Show Up and Crews Experiences. Date, Duo and Just Show Up require an invitation. Crews Experiences let friend groups, known as Crews, meet other groups.
Who can use Experiences?
Experiences are for adults aged 18 or over, or the higher age of majority where they live. Complete the checklist in our app before joining.
Why does the app say my profile isn't ready for Experiences?
Complete the setup steps listed on the screen. We show exactly what is still missing.
Why do you need my location for Experiences?
For invitation-based Experiences, we use your location to confirm that you are at the correct venue when you check in. On the Crews map, location helps us show relevant nearby meets and limits proposals to people who are close enough to realistically attend. This keeps proposals meaningful and helps everyone plan with people who genuinely intend to show up.
How do I update my Experience preferences?
Tap in the bottom navigation, then tap beside Choose Experience. Update your availability, locations, activities and dietary preferences, then select Save preferences. These preferences apply across all invitation-based Experiences. Changes affect future curation and invitations, not an Experience already in progress.
What do the three status lights on the Experience Mode cards mean?
The three lights are a quick progress indicator for each Experience Mode. Their fixed positions help you understand the status without relying only on colour: the left light means waiting, the middle light means action and the right light means active.
Waiting, left light: you are enrolled and waiting for the next step. This can also mean that you accepted an invitation and the Experience is waiting for other participants.
Action, middle light: something is ready for you, such as new profiles or partnerships, an invitation or an Experience review.
Active, right light: an Experience or Crew meet is confirmed, active, happening today or in progress.
Issue, left light in red: you are enrolled, but an eligibility requirement needs attention.
All three lights dim: there is no current progress or action to highlight. Open the card for the exact status and any next step.
Date Mode
What is Date Mode?
Date Mode helps you meet one person at a time through a curated, one-to-one YayOrNay Experience. Each week, we show profiles selected for strong compatibility and your Experience preferences. When interest is mutual, we can arrange the activity, venue, time and reservation and send both of you an invitation.
How do I join Date Mode?
Tap in the bottom navigation, open the Date Experience Mode card and tap Count me in. Complete your Experience preferences and availability to join the weekly curation. If Date Mode is not available, the card shows which eligibility requirement is missing.
What are weekly curated profiles?
Weekly Curated Profiles are the profile cards shown at the top of the Experiences page. They refresh each week and are selected using your Experience preferences and compatibility. We only show people with high compatibility, so some weeks may have no profiles. If that happens, review your Experience preferences and check again after the next weekly refresh.
Is Date Mode only for romance?
No. Date Mode describes the one-to-one Experience format. Weekly Curated Profiles align with both people's matching preferences, so a curated profile may be for romance or friendship depending on what both people are looking for.
How do I know whether a Weekly Curated Profile is for romance or friendship?
Look at the connection symbol on the profile card. means the curated profile is for romance, while means it is for friendship.
Why are Date profiles curated weekly?
Weekly Date curation helps us suggest compatible people around dates and times they can realistically attend. Assuming everyone is always available would lead to more invitations being declined or left unanswered. We take a more intentional approach by considering compatibility, location, activity preferences and schedules together. When approval is mutual, the venue, activity, time and reservation are already arranged, so you do not need to plan the date yourself.
Will someone from Weekly Curated Profiles know if I approve them?
No. Approving someone from Weekly Curated Profiles does not notify them. They will only know once a Date Experience invitation is sent out.
Why did I get few or no curated profiles this week?
Review your Experience preferences and availability to make sure they still reflect what you want. Answering more Yay-or-Nay questions gives us more ways to compare compatibility and can improve the chance of finding suitable profiles for a future weekly release.
When do you create a Date invitation?
We create a Date invitation after both people approve each other and the Experience details are ready.
Just Show Up
What is Just Show Up?
Just Show Up is a social YayOrNay Experience for meeting new people in a group of 4 to 6. We bring together people who are likely to get along and arrange the activity, venue, time and reservation so you can spend less time planning and simply just show up.
How do I join Just Show Up?
Tap in the bottom navigation, open the Just Show Up Experience Mode card and tap Count me in. Complete your Experience preferences and availability to join the list. We will look for a suitable group and plan.
How do you choose a Just Show Up group?
We consider compatibility alongside overlapping availability, location and activity preferences. Answering more Yay-or-Nay questions gives us more to compare and can help us create a group of people who are likely to get along.
Can I choose who joins my Just Show Up Experience?
No. Just Show Up is designed for meeting a curated group of new people, and places are offered to selected participants individually. If you want to attend with one person you already know, form a Duo for a Duo Experience, where you meet another Duo. If you want to make plans as an existing friend group, create a Crew. Your Crew can publish a meet that nearby Crews can find and propose to join.
Are Just Show Up groups anonymous?
Yes. Other participants' names, photos and profiles stay hidden before and during a Just Show Up Experience, including in the Experience chat. After the Experience ends and moves to review, participant details are revealed so you can identify the people you met and leave feedback.
How long will I wait for a Just Show Up invitation?
There is no fixed waiting time. It depends on finding enough eligible people with compatible answers and overlapping preferences, together with a suitable venue and time. Keep your preferences and availability current while you are on the list.
What happens when a Just Show Up group is ready?
We send each selected participant an invitation with the plan. Review the details, accept and complete any required payment before the invitation expires. The Experience is confirmed once the minimum required number of participants have accepted.
How do I update my Just Show Up preferences or leave the list?
Open the Just Show Up Experience Mode card and tap Update preferences to change and save your choices. To stop receiving invitations, choose Withdraw from list. If you are already committed to an active Just Show Up Experience, cancel it before leaving the list.
Duo Experiences
What is a Duo Experience?
A Duo Experience brings two Duos together for a four-person activity. First, form a Duo with a friend or partner, then review other compatible Duos you may want to meet.
How do I create a Duo?
Tap in the bottom navigation to open Experiences, open the Duo Experience Mode card and tap an empty partner slot. YayOrNay creates the Duo invitation and opens the sharing options. Send the invitation link to the friend or partner you want to form a Duo with.
How does my friend join my Duo?
Your friend joins through the Duo invitation link you share. When they open the link in YayOrNay, the app takes them to Experiences and adds them to your Duo if the invitation is still valid. The person joining must have a YayOrNay account, have completed the required account setup and be eligible for Duo.
Why is the Duo invitation link not working?
The invitation may have expired, already been used or no longer be valid. Ask the person who created the Duo to share a new invitation link. The person joining must also have a YayOrNay account, have completed the required account setup and be eligible for Duo.
Can I have more than one Duo partner?
Yes, up to the partnership limit shown in the app. Premium provides more Duo partnership slots. You cannot create another partnership after reaching the maximum.
Can I change my Duo preferences?
Yes. Tap in the bottom navigation to open Experiences, open Duo, select the partnership and use the availability, location and activity icons to update the shared preferences. Select Save preferences; the changes apply to future Duo suggestions.
Duo matching and confirmed Experiences
How does a Duo Experience become a match?
Both partnerships review the suggested pair. A Duo Experience moves forward after the required interest, invitation and confirmation steps are complete.
Does my Duo partner need to accept the Experience?
Yes. Each required participant must accept and complete any payment step before the Duo Experience is confirmed.
Can I leave a Duo partnership?
Yes. Tap in the bottom navigation to open Experiences, open Duo, select the partnership, open its controls and choose Leave partnership. Confirm the change; the partnership will no longer be available for new Duo Experiences.
Can I remove my Duo partner?
No. You cannot remove a partner from an existing Duo. To end the Duo, choose Leave partnership.
Does leaving a Duo partnership cancel a confirmed Experience?
No. Leaving the partnership does not automatically cancel an existing confirmed booking. Tap in the bottom navigation to open Experiences and open the relevant Duo Experience Mode card to view its status or cancel your participation separately.
Who can see my Duo partnership?
Your Duo partner and the people who receive a Duo proposal can see the partnership details included in it. Your partnership is not publicly searchable.
Invitations, payments and cancellations
How do I accept or decline an Experience invitation?
Tap in the bottom navigation to open Experiences, then open the Experience Mode card showing your invitation. Review the plan and price, then choose Accept or Pass before the deadline.
Is my place confirmed when I accept an invitation?
No. Accepting an invitation alone does not secure your place. Your place is secured once any required payment has completed successfully. The Experience is confirmed once the minimum required number of participants have accepted their invitations.
Why am I being asked to pay for an Experience?
We charge a commitment fee to encourage everyone to treat the Experience as a real plan and show up. Some Experiences also include an activity fee, which is divided among the participants.
My Experience payment failed. What should I do?
Check your internet connection and payment method. If you were not charged and the invitation is still available, restart YayOrNay and try the payment again. If you were charged, email support@yayornay.se from the email address linked to the affected account and include the transaction ID from your receipt.
How do I know an Experience is confirmed?
Tap in the bottom navigation to open Experiences, then find the relevant Experience Mode card. The current status is shown on the card. Your Experience is confirmed only when the status says Confirmed.
Can I cancel an Experience?
Yes, you can cancel before the Experience starts. Tap in the bottom navigation, open the active Experience Mode card, then tap in the top-right and choose Cancel participation. The refund you receive depends on how long before the start time you cancel. Other participants have made room in their day and committed to being there, so please cancel only when you genuinely need to. Repeated cancellations may affect your priority for future Experience invitations.
Will I get a refund if you cancel my Experience?
Yes. If YayOrNay cancels your Experience, you will receive a refund.
Will I get a refund if I cancel or don't attend?
Refunds for cancellations depend on when you cancel. If you do not attend the Experience, your payment is non-refundable.
Attendance and check-in
How do I check in?
Tap in the bottom navigation to open Experiences and open the confirmed Experience Mode card. Make sure location access is allowed. When check-in opens, tap Check-in so YayOrNay can verify that you are at the venue.
Why can't I check in?
Check that you are at the right place and time with location enabled. Tap in the bottom navigation to open Experiences, reopen the confirmed Experience Mode card and try Check-in again. If it still fails, tap to open the Account page, then tap and choose Report a bug.
What happens if I don't show up?
We record a missed Experience as a no-show. Repeated no-shows can reduce access to future Experiences. Cancel as early as possible when you cannot attend.
What if the venue, time, or activity changes?
Tap in the bottom navigation to open Experiences and open the active Experience Mode card for the latest venue, time and activity. If you cannot attend after a change, tap and choose Cancel participation.
Finding and preparing for an Experience
How do I find Experiences near me?
Experiences are invitation-only, so you cannot browse or join nearby Experiences directly. To find local meets and happenings, make sure you are in a Crew, then tap in the bottom navigation and open the Crews map. Allow location access to see relevant options near you.
Why did an Experience invitation expire?
You did not complete the required response or payment before the deadline. The place has been released and we cannot restore the expired invitation.
Can I bring a friend or guest?
We make reservations for the confirmed participants listed in the Experience. We cannot guarantee that a friend or guest who is not part of the booking will be able to join.
Do I need to bring ID?
We recommend always bringing valid identification. Some venues may restrict entry if you cannot provide accepted proof of age.
When should I arrive?
We recommend arriving a few minutes before the Experience's scheduled start time. Plan your travel accordingly.
How do I add dietary preferences for Experiences?
Tap in the bottom navigation, then tap beside Choose Experience. Go to Activities and open Dietary preferences. We currently support Vegetarian, Vegan, Pescatarian, Gluten-free, Dairy-free, Lactose-free, Nut-free, Halal and Kosher. Select every option the venue must support, then save your preferences.
How do dietary preferences affect venue selection?
For Experiences that include food or drinks, we only book a partnered venue that has confirmed it supports every dietary preference selected by all participants. If no suitable venue and time are available, it may take longer to arrange an Experience.
Who should I contact about the venue?
For any questions about your YayOrNay Experience, contact our support team at support@yayornay.se. The venue can answer general questions about its location or facilities, but it cannot help with details specific to your YayOrNay Experience.
What happens if another participant cancels?
Tap in the bottom navigation to open Experiences. If the Experience remains confirmed, its card will continue to appear with the current status. If the Experience is cancelled, we will send you a notification and the card will no longer appear.
Receipts, participation and after the Experience
Where can I find my Experience receipt?
After your Experience payment is successfully completed, our payment provider sends a receipt to the email address linked to your YayOrNay account. Check your inbox and spam folder. If you cannot find the receipt, email support@yayornay.se from the email address linked to your YayOrNay account and include the date, amount and Experience name.
Can I change the payment method for a confirmed Experience?
No. The payment method used at checkout cannot be changed after the payment is completed.
How do I leave feedback about an Experience?
Once an Experience is completed, it enters the review phase. Open its completed Experience Mode card and choose Tell us about your experience. Please take a few minutes to complete the review thoughtfully. Your feedback helps us understand what worked and improve future YayOrNay Experiences for everyone.
Can I unenroll from an Experience Mode?
You can unenroll from an Experience Mode at any time. If you are currently committed to an active Experience in that mode, cancel it before unenrolling. For Date or Just Show Up, open the Experience Mode card and choose Withdraw from list. For Duo, open the partnership controls and choose Leave partnership.
When does an Experience chat open?
Chat access becomes available shortly before the Experience takes place, giving confirmed participants time to coordinate with one another. Open the confirmed Experience Mode card to access the chat when it becomes available.
Who can read an Experience chat?
Confirmed participants and the YayOrNay liaison operator assigned to the Experience can access the chat. In some cases, an authorised representative from the venue may also receive access to communicate practical details.
Can I have several active Experiences at once?
Yes, you can have Experiences booked in different Experience Modes at the same time. We use scheduling safeguards to help prevent double bookings. We may limit how many active Experiences you can hold so you can give proper attention to the Experiences you have committed to.
What happens after an Experience ends?
After an Experience ends, its card can show a review step. Tap in the bottom navigation to open Experiences, open the completed card and complete Tell us about your experience when it appears.
