Answering questions and viewing your history

Why do you ask so many questions?

Each answer makes compatibility a little more meaningful. The more you share, the easier it is to find people who see the world a little like you do.

Should I answer Yay or Nay based on what I think others want?

No. Answer honestly and be yourself. We want to help you find people who like you for who you really are.

Can I skip a question?

Yes. Tap Skip in the top-left corner of the question, then choose a reason. You can return skipped questions to your feed from Settings.

How do I see skipped questions again?

Tap in the bottom navigation to open the Account page, tap beside your profile photo, then under Application tap Reset Skipped Questions and confirm. The skipped questions return to your Questions feed.

Can I change an answer?

Yes. Tap in the bottom navigation to open the Account page and scroll to your answer history. Tap the answer you want to update, choose Change to Yay or Change to Nay and confirm the token cost shown before changing it.

Where can I see my answer history?

Tap in the bottom navigation to open the Account page and scroll below your profile card. Your YayOrNay answer history appears there, with the latest answers first.

How do I filter my answer history?

Use the controls above your answer history to show Yays, Nays, Rathers or Dream Mode answers.

What do the statistics after a question show?

The statistics show how YayOrNay users answered that question. They appear after you submit your answer or when you tap an answer in your answer history on the Account page.

Dream Mode

What is Dream Mode?

Dream Mode lets you choose how you would like an ideal match to answer. Tap in the bottom navigation to open Questions, then tap near the top-right of the question screen to turn Dream Mode on or off.

Can other users see my Dream Mode answers?

No. Dream Mode answers are private and only you can see them.

Why can't I add a Dream Mode answer?

You can only provide a dream answer after answering the same question for yourself. Tap in the bottom navigation to open Questions, answer more regular questions, then tap to return to Dream Mode.

Compatibility and question settings

What does the compatibility score mean?

The compatibility score shows how closely your answers align with someone else's. A higher score means your answers are more similar.

How is compatibility calculated?

We use a proprietary algorithm informed by psychological research. It considers multiple factors from both people's answers and preferences to calculate compatibility.

Why are some of another person's answers locked?

You can only see answers to questions you have answered yourself. From those, a rotating selection of the other person's public answers is available to everyone. A Premium subscription lets you see more of the public answers they have chosen to share.

Will answering more questions improve my matches?

The more questions you answer, the more shared answers YayOrNay can compare with other people. This creates richer compatibility results and helps you find people with similar values, interests and views, making it more likely that you will get along.

What do category weights do?

Category weights let you decide which topics matter most to you. Raising or lowering a weight gives every question in that category more or less influence on your compatibility score.

Why have I run out of questions?

You have answered or skipped every question currently available. To return skipped questions to the feed, tap in the bottom navigation to open the Account page, tap , then tap Reset Skipped Questions. You can also tap in the top-right corner of Questions to suggest a new question. Otherwise, check back when new questions are published.

Can I suggest a question?

Yes. Tap in the bottom navigation to open Questions, then tap in the top-right corner to open the question suggestion form.

Answer visibility and controls

Can I comment on a question?

Yes. After answering a question, tap the Show discussion button to read the comments and join the conversation. You can also tap in the bottom navigation, find the question in your answer history, tap it and then tap Show discussion.

Which of my answers can other users see?

Other users can only see answers you chose to answer publicly. Anonymous answers and Dream Mode answers are never shared.

Can other users see why I skipped a question?

No, they cannot.

Can I remove an answer completely?

No. An answer cannot be removed, but you can change the answer or update its visibility.

Why did a compatibility score change?

Compatibility scores are not fixed. They update regularly as either person answers more questions or changes their preferences.

Why doesn't someone have a compatibility score?

YayOrNay needs enough questions that both of you have answered to calculate a compatibility score. Answering more questions increases the chance that there will be enough overlap to compare your answers.

Do I have to use Dream Mode?

No. Dream Mode is optional. It lets you say when you would prefer someone who answers differently from you. For example, if you do not enjoy driving but would prefer someone who does, you can set that as your Dream answer so compatibility reflects what you are looking for.

Can I reset my category importance settings?

There is no one-tap reset for category weights. Tap in the bottom navigation to open the Account page, tap , scroll to Category Weights, adjust the five sliders individually and tap Save Changes.

What if a question feels outdated, unclear, or inappropriate?

Tap Skip if you do not want to answer it. To suggest a correction, tap in the bottom navigation to open the Account page, tap , then tap Send us feedback and identify the question in your message.

Personality Assessment

What is the YayOrNay Personality Assessment?

The YayOrNay Personality Assessment uses your question answers to create trait scores and highlight your strongest traits. It can help you understand who you are today and explore the gap between who you are and who you want to be.

How do I unlock my Personality Assessment?

Tap in the bottom navigation to view your Personality Assessment progress. If it is not complete, answer more Yay-or-Nay questions until the progress reaches 100%.

Why does my Personality Assessment say that more answers are needed?

YayOrNay does not have enough answers to calculate a useful set of trait scores. Tap in the bottom navigation to open Questions and answer more, then tap in the bottom navigation to reopen Personality Assessment.

What do Personality Assessment scores from 0 to 100 mean?

Each score shows how prominent a trait appears in your personality based on your answers. A score closer to 100 means the trait appears more strongly, while a score closer to 0 means it appears less strongly. It is not a grade, and there is no ideal score.

What does the gold marker on a trait score mean?

The gold marker shows the median score for YayOrNay users on that trait. This is the middle position, with about half of users scoring below it and half above it. It helps you compare your score with a typical user position, not a target.

Why did my Personality Assessment change?

Your Personality Assessment is based on your answers. Answering new questions or changing previous answers can update your assessment and trait scores.

Can I edit a Personality Assessment score?

No. You cannot edit a trait score directly. If a score feels completely wrong, review your answers and make sure they reflect your current values and opinions. Each score is an estimate based on your answers and psychological research, and it may change as your answers change.

Can other users see my full Personality Assessment?

No. Your full assessment is private unless you choose to share it yourself.

Is the Personality Assessment a medical or psychological diagnosis?

No. The Personality Assessment is an app feature based on your YayOrNay answers. It does not diagnose a mental-health condition.

Why is a trait missing from my assessment?

You have not answered enough questions linked to that trait. Answer more questions and check again.
